Beach Day
In the first week of March the theme was Summer, and boy were we dreaming that week! And, what's Summer without a trip to the beach! So, we ditched our desk and pulled out the beach towels!
We even had our very own "beach!" Where we did some fun letter finding activities.
Also we read probably my favorite picture book ever, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom! by. Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault. This book is full of fun rhymes and onomatopoeia. It's seriously just so much fun! We then made our own little palm trees with our hands and added our own letters tumbling out of the tree.
The beach day was a SUCCESS! In fact one boy asked at the end of the day, "Can everyday be beach day?"
Fun Library Time!
Once a month a lady from the library comes in and has some great books to read to the Kindergarten and Preschool. She always has fun songs and activities with the books. The students love it (and so do I)!
Look how focused they are!
A Whole Week Away!
In the second week of March I left for a whole week to go on a mission trip to Oklahoma. I'm not sure who was more concerned about me leaving, me or my students. One student told me "Are we getting a new teacher? I don't want a new teacher!". Despite all the nerves, the week went great! I had GREAT substitutes. Plus, it was so nice that the students knew all the subs already. The week's theme was fall and the students learned all about animal migration, Johnny Appleseed, and changing leaves.
Brrr! Winter Time!
Last week's theme was winter, which suited just fine with the weather. On Monday we talked about our favorite part of winter. Let me tell you, my students have a MUCH better attitude about winter than I do. While my favorite part of winter is the end, they came up with many fun winter activities. Igloos, skating, sledding, and snowball fights were a few great activities.
On Tuesday we talked about how some birds migrate, but some stay here during the winter! To help these birds out we made some bird feeders out of Cheerios. The activity took some difficult fine motor skill, but it was still fun! They were all so excited to hang up their feeders. Did anyone actually see any birds come? Please tell me if you have; I am super curious if they are actually good feeders!
Feeders turned crowns?
We finished off the week with a cute winter book. We also did some "testing". Definitely not intense test, just a few review worksheets to let me know how they are doing. I will be talking more about them in just a second :)

Coming Up....
Next week's theme is Spring (you know the season we're suppose to be in). Also it's the start of the last quarter (WHAT!). I seriously can't believe the year is going so fast, but we only have around seven weeks left! As I mentioned earlier, the students took some small review test just so I could see how their doing. The test covered sight words, combined letter sounds, and sounding out words. I was really happy with the results! This weekend and this week I am going to be sending emails to all the parents about progress. PLEASE check your emails and reply back when you get them. Thanks!
